I want everyone to think long and hard on this information.

This means that you are not buying your games. You are paying 60+ dollars to rent the games from Microsoft, and they can take their game back whenever they feel like it.

You will not own your game. You will not own your console. Essentially, Microsoft is saying “We can disable your games and cut you off from accessing your console whenever we choose to.” Because a ban that locks your XBox Live account means that you will be locked out from all non-game functionality of the system, and by revoking your ‘licenses’ on all your games associated with your account, they can then disable each and every game you own for the system. Leaving you with a five hundred dollar cable receiver. Or, in the case of most users of the console, a five hundred dollar paperweight.

All because you accidentally walked into some online glitch and the rest of the players rage-report you for cheating.

This is unacceptable. Buy any console but an XBox One. Do not support Microsoft’s sudden belief that they own everything despite our purchase of it, and we have to prove we’re worthy of being shared with by paying exorbitant fees and jumping through constant hoops and hoping someone doesn’t report us for cheating because we made them mad in an online game.

Tell Microsoft ‘No,’ and do not give them your hard-earned money for what amounts to a video game subscription service with a $500 starting fee and $60+ dollar purchases.

i could totally engage in small talk if it were permitted to answer like…

I work in a call center, doing inventory control/distribution for the stores in my company. I answer the phone by saying “Hello, thank you for calling X, this is Wendy, how may I help you?”

And people get REALLY ANNOYED that I break the social contract and don’t respond to, or ask ‘how are you?’. They get genuinely upset and sometimes it really throws them off. Particularly the younger/newer folks. What I appreciate about the long term employees is that after a while they realize when they call…that I don’t care how they are feeling, but I do care about doing what I can to help them do their job, if only to be efficient, if not mostly cheerful while doing ultimately silly work about things that aren’t as important as folks think they are. They stop asking how we are unless something is obviously wrong; there is still a coworker relationship, so when things happens we do sometimes commiserate about the job or small talk.

I noticed that working retail as well, as I always asked how I could help instead of how they were; folks dislike the breaking of the implied social contract about caring about each other. OTOH, when I DID ask a customer how they were doing, and it was a regular, they knew I was genuinely interested and we could chat a bit, and vice versa.

Personally, I find I also prefer to be asked how someone can help me, rather how I am feeling. Having a stranger ask me that, even in passing, makes me feel a little uncomfortable, the same way I do about people who are overly huggy and under-consenty, or folks who call me by pet names who have never met me.) However, I used to have, and still struggle with, boundary issues so I am very aware of those sort of lines these days.

As a long time smoker/current ex-smoker, I’m gonna have to tell you that feeling like I have the right to smoke wherever I want actually does end at someone else’s discomfort. If I was smoking and walking, I’d aim for less crowded spaces. If I was stationary, I’d go for a non populated area or one filled with other smokers (thats actually how I met most of my friends in college. It was weird how it sort of forced sociability. Hell, when I had to kill time outside a place, it got to where I’d smoke so I could talk to the other smokers, so I didn’t look weird waiting, lol. But seriously, 90% of smokers really do try to keep reasonable boundaries. (Like, if I am sitting in the park, out side, and smoking and no one is near by, its kinda annoying when a non smokrer gets upset. But if I’m sitting in the park outside next to the kiddie park or the dog park, I too get the barely suppressed urge to throat punch that motherfucker, because that is not a thing anyone should do.

basically, any smoker who gets up in your grills is either a stupid asshole, or just an asshole.

The bills don’t match at all. They are different prices.

…whut do.

1) Take a deep breath.

2) Call the hospitals, both of them, go by your bills, and ask them how much they say you owe them. Do not pay anyone anything yet

3) Call your insurance company, and see what THEY; how much they paid each hospital, if at all (you’d be amazed how many bills don’t make it to the insurance company before they get to you…not). Generally, they know what you owe the hospital.

See how those things match, and then go from there - that was the advice i personally got from a rep at my insurance company, and its been helpful. I also did medical billing, so I should have know that all anyway, but you panic when YOU get the 50,000$ bill in your name! Calling both hospitals also helps - I found out that the ER i went to last year bills for the VISIT and TESTS in one system, and the GODDAMN DOCTOR FEE on another - one bill I paid, one i thought was a duplicate, and no one at the hospital in the six months I was calling them going WTF thought to check the secondary system. So THEY don’t always know what they are talking about either - my insurance company was able to help me figure out what happened

Every once in a while, something good does pop up in there. I literally had a copy of Ida Craddock’s biography fall an bonk me on the foot. I didn’t have the cash to buy it that day, and a few weeks later, my parter, who’s book and author recommendations are always excellent resources brought his copy over and suggested I give it a read! I think it also depends on the location of the book store as well. My Barnes and Nobles (and the Penn Bookstore) are large enough to have nicely well stocked sections for a variety of topics. The book store I worked in was an express in a commuter mall - our ‘new age’ section was one bay of books that made me cringe, and the 6 book mythology section I’d put together. Bleh.
